Khartoum Travel Safety Guide — Sudan
Safety Score: 3/10 · Value: 7/10 · Beauty: 5/10
Khartoum sits at one of the world's most significant geographic confluences, the exact meeting point of the Blue Nile (from Ethiopia) and White Nile (from Uganda). Sudan has more ancient pyramids than Egypt (200+ Nubian pyramids at the UNESCO Meroe site) and was the heart of powerful kingdoms (Kush, Meroe) that rivalled and occasionally conquered Egypt. CRITICAL NOTE: Sudan has been in active civil war since April 2023, with severe fighting in Khartoum causing massive displacement and destruction. All major governments advise 'do not travel'. This entry is provided for future planning once peace returns.
