Djibouti is a tiny Horn of Africa nation that punches above its weight for extreme geography. Lake Assal is the saltiest lake outside Antarctica and the lowest point in Africa. The Gulf of Tadjoura has some of the best whale shark encounters in the world (November–February). It's not cheap and infrastructure is basic, but it's genuinely unlike anywhere else.
