Majuro Travel Safety Guide — Marshall Islands
Safety Score: 8/10 · Value: 7.5/10 · Beauty: 7.8/10
Majuro is the capital of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, a nation of 29 coral atolls and 5 islands in the central Pacific, in free association with the United States. The capital atoll is extraordinarily narrow, averaging just 1km wide but stretching 64km in length, never rising more than 3m above sea level. The Marshall Islands is on the front line of climate change and sea level rise: some outer islands are already uninhabitable due to saltwater intrusion. The islands have a complex WWII and nuclear testing history, the US tested 67 nuclear weapons at Bikini Atoll (now UNESCO) between 1946 and 1958, including the Bravo hydrogen bomb which was the largest US nuclear test ever.
