Honiara Travel Safety Guide — Solomon Islands
Safety Score: 7/10 · Value: 8/10 · Beauty: 7.8/10
Honiara is the capital of the Solomon Islands, a Melanesian archipelago nation in the South Pacific comprising 900+ islands. The city sits on Guadalcanal, the island where one of WWII's most decisive and bloody Pacific campaigns was fought (August 1942–February 1943) between US and Japanese forces. The surrounding waters, Iron Bottom Sound, hold dozens of sunken warships and aircraft, making this one of the world's premier wreck diving destinations. The Solomon Islands has extraordinary biodiversity (endemic bird species, pristine coral reefs), a strong kastom (traditional culture) tradition, and is one of the Pacific's least-visited capitals.
