Kunming Travel Safety Guide — China
Safety Score: 7.5/10 · Value: 8.5/10 · Beauty: 7.8/10
Kunming earned its 'Spring City' nickname because temperatures rarely exceed 25°C in summer or drop below 5°C in winter, an extraordinarily pleasant climate at 1,895m altitude. As the capital of Yunnan province, it is the gateway to one of China's most culturally diverse regions: home to 26 of China's 55 ethnic minority groups, including Yi, Bai, Naxi, and Dai peoples. The Stone Forest (Shilin, UNESCO), 270 million-year-old limestone formations resembling a forest of stone, is 90 minutes away. Yunnan cuisine (crossing-the-bridge noodles, wild mushrooms, Yunnan ham, flower cakes) is one of China's most distinctive.
