Guangzhou (formerly Canton) is the capital of Guangdong province and the birthplace of Cantonese cuisine, the culinary tradition that most of the world thinks of as 'Chinese food'. The city of 18 million is China's third-largest and the manufacturing and trading hub of the Pearl River Delta.
