Hurghada Travel Safety Guide — Egypt
Safety Score: 7/10 · Value: 8/10 · Beauty: 7.8/10
Hurghada is Egypt's largest Red Sea resort, a city of 250,000 that has transformed from a small fishing village into one of Africa's biggest tourist hubs. While less prestigious than Sharm el-Sheikh for elite diving, Hurghada offers better value with the same access to Red Sea biodiversity. Giftun Island National Park (40-minute boat ride) has pristine snorkelling with dolphins, sea turtles, and vivid coral. The Sahl Hasheesh and Makadi Bay areas south of Hurghada have better-quality resorts. El Dahar (the old town) is the most authentic neighbourhood. Kite-surfing at El Gouna (20 km north) is world-class.
