Aqaba Travel Safety Guide — Jordan
Safety Score: 8/10 · Value: 7.5/10 · Beauty: 7.8/10
Aqaba is Jordan's only sea outlet — a compact, manageable city of 200,000 on the northern tip of the Red Sea, sharing the gulf with Israel's Eilat and Egypt's Taba. While small, it punches far above its weight as a base: Wadi Rum (one of Earth's most extraordinary desert landscapes) is 60 km away, Petra (one of the world's great ancient cities) is 2.5 hours by car, and the Red Sea snorkelling and diving here is excellent but far less crowded than Hurghada or Sharm. Jordan's only beach resort is actually good value, and the city is genuinely safe and welcoming to tourists.
