Maseru Travel Safety Guide — Lesotho
Safety Score: 7/10 · Value: 8/10 · Beauty: 7.8/10
Lesotho is one of the world's most unusual countries, a constitutional monarchy entirely enclosed within South Africa and the only country on Earth that lies completely above 1,000m elevation (its lowest point, 1,400m, is the world's highest low point). Known as the Kingdom in the Sky, Lesotho has dramatic highland scenery, the Maluti and Drakensberg mountains, deep river gorges, and highland plateaus that receive snow in winter. Maseru is the capital and main entry point, a functional city with a strong handicraft tradition (famous Basotho blankets and conical mokorotlo hats). The country is safe, friendly, and surprisingly accessible from South Africa.
