Belgrade is rough around the edges and a lot of fun. It has been bombed, sanctioned and rebuilt more times than seems fair, and the result is a city that does not take itself too seriously and knows how to stay up late. The floating river clubs on the Sava and Danube go until sunrise, the old Kalemegdan fortress sits above the meeting of the two rivers, and reminders of its years as the Yugoslav capital are everywhere. Because Serbia is outside the EU, your money also goes a good deal further here than in Western Europe.
