Sochi Travel Safety Guide — Russia
Safety Score: 6.5/10 · Value: 7.5/10 · Beauty: 8.4/10
Sochi is Russia's great seaside escape, a subtropical resort city of 400,000 on the Black Sea coast, backed by the snow-capped Caucasus Mountains. Uniquely in Russia, it has both beach culture (warm Black Sea waters, palm-lined promenades) and world-class ski infrastructure (Rosa Khutor hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics alpine events). The Krasnaya Polyana mountain area is 40 minutes from the beach by direct rail, a combination found almost nowhere else on Earth. The city has a relaxed, Mediterranean-ish vibe very different from Moscow or St. Petersburg.
