Riga is Europe's most underrated capital, a UNESCO-listed medieval Old Town of amber shops and Gothic spires, surrounded by the world's greatest concentration of Art Nouveau architecture (over 800 buildings, more than any other city on Earth, designed by Mikhail Eisenstein and others around 1900). Latvia's capital is also home to one of Europe's greatest markets (five zeppelin hangars turned into a food and goods market). Budget-friendly, friendly, and genuinely beautiful.
