Novosibirsk Travel Safety Guide — Russia
Safety Score: 7/10 · Value: 8/10 · Beauty: 6.1/10
Novosibirsk is the capital of Siberia, Russia's third-largest city by population, founded in 1893 as a Trans-Siberian Railway bridge crossing and grown into a major industrial and academic centre. The city has a surprising cultural depth: its opera house is the largest in Russia (larger than the Bolshoi), and the adjacent Akademgorodok ('Science Town') is a purpose-built academic city founded by the USSR in 1958 that houses 35 research institutes and Novosibirsk State University, still a world-class scientific community. The Novosibirsk Zoo is one of the best in Russia for wildlife in natural-ish conditions.
