Kazan Travel Safety Guide — Russia
Safety Score: 7.5/10 · Value: 8.5/10 · Beauty: 7.8/10
Kazan is one of Russia's most fascinating cities, a 1,000-year-old capital where Russian Orthodox and Tatar Muslim cultures have coexisted for centuries, producing a genuinely unique urban character. The Kazan Kremlin (UNESCO) contains both the 16th-century Annunciation Cathedral and the stunning modern Kul Sharif Mosque on the same fortress hilltop. Tatar cuisine, one of Russia's most distinctive regional food cultures, is excellent here, and Kazan has a young, educated population thanks to its major universities. It hosted the 2013 Summer Universiade and 2018 FIFA World Cup group stage.
